Motorbikes on sidewalks: A dangerous shortcut with heavy fines

Since the start of 2025, Bến Thành police have handled 115 similar cases. PC08 (Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Division) noted this violation often occurs during rush hours on heavily congested routes.

Riding on sidewalks not only blocks pedestrians but also increases the risk of accidents and degrades urban order. To address this, Hàng Xanh traffic police have strengthened patrols and coordinated with local authorities to clear sidewalk encroachments and penalize illegal parking.

Under Decree 168/2024/NĐ-CP, violators face fines of VND 4–6 million and a deduction of 2 points from their driver’s license.

PC08 urged drivers to follow traffic laws: use proper lanes, maintain safe speed and distance, wear helmets, respect alcohol limits, and absolutely avoid weaving, reckless driving, or riding on sidewalks. Compliance, they stressed, protects individuals and contributes to building a safer, more civilized traffic culture in Ho Chi Minh City.
